Frequently Asked Questions
about Fertility
When should I start?
Whenever you’d like additional support on your fertility journey! Some of our clients schedule a fertility consult before they even start tracking their cycle while other clients have already been tracking for years. Some clients start Coyote fertility care because they are looking for less intervention and a homey feel after receiving fertility care through a medical-model facility. Regardless of where you are on your path to pregnancy, we are here to help!
What is the Difference between ICI, IUI, and IVF?
Intracervical insemination (ICI) involves placing sperm at or inside the cervix using a needleless syringe. Both washed sperm (sperm separate from semen) and fresh sperm can be used in this process. Intrauterine insemination (IUI) involves placing washed sperm into the uterus. This process involves a speculum to visualize the cervix to insert a small catheter through the cervix and into the uterus. In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a highly medicalized procedure that involves combining an egg and sperm outside of the body. The resulting embryo is placed inside the uterus. This procedure is not available through Coyote.
Whether you choose intrauterine insemination (IUI) or intracervical insemination (ICI), these simple procedures may be provided in the comfort and privacy of your home. After placing washed sperm into your uterus (IUI) or fresh sperm near the cervix (ICI), we will leave you to quietly set an intention before you jump back into the activities of the day.
Will my insurance cover Coyote Fertility Care?
Generally insurance does not cover fertility care unless a client can show they have received at least 6 months months of fertility service. This varies between insurance companies so it will be important for you to call your insurance company for more information. We are happy to provide you with any necessary documentation for your reimbursement from your insurance company.
What are the main differences between Coyote Fertility Care and major clinics? We operate from an assumption of fertility. We believe that most people who are empowered in their family choice, informed in their body’s fertility, and are planning well-timed inseminations or intercourse will become pregnant within 6-12 months. We begin our care with the lowest intervention that feels right to you. We are able to provide homey, non-medicalized care in our clinic or in your home that helps promote your comfort and cultivate trust in your body. The medical model of fertility, which comes from an assumption of infertility, often does not meet the needs of many individuals. This model of care generally starts with the most intervention and screening processes before reducing based on findings.
Am I a good candidate for Coyote Fertility Care?
Most people who are looking to create or grow their family are great candidates for our fertility care. Whether you have been labeled an elderly gravida, are a single parent by choice, transgender parents, queer families, or non-traditional families that do not fit neatly into a societal box, we see you as an empowered being, already fertile, and ready to create a family. Schedule a fertility consult so we can create the ideal plan for you based on your specific needs and health history.
Will you be able to manage my PCOS?
Yes, we are able to provide support to clients who have been diagnosed with PCOS. Whether you prefer natural supportive measures or more medical intervention we have got you covered! Schedule a fertility consult to determine if our care is right for you.
Can’t I just inseminate at home on my own?
You can! The procedure is made up of very simple techniques that can be learned by anyone with a desire to do it on their own. We love offering education on how to inseminate at home using either the intracervical (ICI) method or intrauterine (IUI) method. To find out if this might be the right choice for you come on in for a fertility consult!
How do I get the timing right for IUI?
One of the most important factors in the insemination processes is well-timed IUI with ovulation! In order to accurately predict ovulation it is important to have at least 3 months of cycle charting, including OPK indicating when you ovulated in the past. This charting can reveal patterns of ovulation over a three month period, giving us valuable information for predicting ovulation during future cycles. We can help navigate this process while you discover your body's cues of ovulation.
