Kelsey Bushong

Nutritionist | Doula

Kelsey Bushong, MS

(she/her) | Portland, Oregon

Services: Holistic Nutrition Counseling | Birth & Postpartum Doula

Kelsey’s love of pregnancy and birth began with her first pregnancy, with an insatiable desire to research all of the things birth-related to make the most informed decisions.

The birth of Kelsey’s first son, Silas, was a hospital-based birth with a midwifery group. While the experience was lovely and supportive, the postpartum care during her stay at the hospital left something to be desired. She knew that the next time things would be different. In 2015, on a sunny winter day, Kelsey welcomed her second son, Felix, at home in the water with Caitlin and Mary by her side as her loving doulas. The experience was unmatched and changed Kelsey’s perception of how birth could be. Kelsey had the privilege of having Caitlin and Mary by her side once again for the birth of her third son, Cooper. Only this time as her midwives at a beautiful birth center in Portland, OR.

Kelsey’s desire to work in the birthing community greatly influenced her academic career. After the birth of Felix, she found herself in the kitchen a lot, using cooking as a creative outlet to help herself heal, and discovered a love for nutrition. In 2018, Kelsey graduated from the National University of Natural Medicine with a BS in Nutrition. During her undergraduate career, she also attended the OHSU-PSU School of Public Health, completing a year-long course in Human Lactation. In March 2021, Kelsey finished her Master’s in Human Nutrition and Functional Medicine, where she wrote her thesis on iron deficiency and postpartum depression. Kelsey is also a postpartum doula who is currently working on becoming DONA certified. She will be completing her birth doula training in August 2021.

Kelsey’s personal philosophy regarding nutrition is that we are all biologically different. She approaches both birth work and nutrition counseling in the same manner: everyone is an individual.

Kelsey currently lives in Portland, OR with her three boys, her partner Nick, their dog Sonny, and two cats George and Eleanor.
